Default Trolling motor problems

Hey, Uncovered the boat today and hooked everything up to check it all out. And my trolling motor is making a grinding sound anyone have any ideas on why?

Where is the grinding coming from? Have you taken the prop off to see if there is any line or grass wrapped around the prop shaft?

I had line wrapped around mine last year and I didn't hear it until it was too late, it burned up my brushes. I replaced the brushes and holder and got it running but it is noisy. I'm going to rebuild it before ice out with a kit from here: http://www.northlandmarine.com/MinnKotaQuickRef.htm
They have pretty good prices on the kits. They come apart really easily and I adjusted the brushes on mine on the water once even. I'd suggest a whole kit though with the bearing and seals.

One other thing I learned is that if the motor is turning backwards after you put it back together just pull the 2 bolts and turn it 180 degrees.

I don't know about MG, but they are probably about the same.
