Default Hurricane Irene

Yikes! The closer this storm gets the worse the forecast has become. I own a house in central Connecticut and I can't remember a forecast like this one. It's looking like it could get real ugly. I can't imagine how folks in the southeast deal with these storms on a much more frequent basis. I am not looking forward to this event. Too everyone within reach of it's path, stay safe!

Weather channel guy yesterday predicted "worst storm in New England ever...." so you better run out and get your bottled water, sand bags, generators, plywood, batteries, tp, milk, bread, eggs, pop tarts, Ho-Ho's, and most important.....beer!!! And if you need a snow shovel get one now.

Seriously be prepared just in case.

Not to hijack the thread, but high demand is a pretty damn good reason.

Went through a few tough storms back when I lived on the S.Carolina coast. These things cause allot of destruction and heartbreak for allot of good people. Remember to keep the safety of family and yourself above all material possessions, one can be replaced the other cannot.

again not to hijack the thread, and sorry if it does.....

But I agree high demand is a good reason to raise prices. But as if gas prices weren't already higher then they had to me. There's no "good reason" they need to be this high as far as I know.

Yup, pretty sure they called those jumps off. Chute opens in the right wind they may actually end up on Normandy needing a few pins and braces.

Yep, jump over Normandy, send the medics to Sicily. I've bounced the ground on both of those but St. Mere was, without a doubt, the worst.

Another 36 hrs or so and it'll be over here. Hit the store yesterday due to the fridge being empty and asked the cashier if people were going nuts and buying crazy things. She chuckled and said yeah just shaking her head.

I'm not concerned about flooding but I have 26 pine trees that line my property and I'm expecting some damage to them if we get winds over 60 mph.

Just go cut them down now and be done with it...................... Seriously good luck, I'll be driving south through Virginia tomorrow about mid-morning headed towards Kerr. I'm hoping SOUTH BOUND traffic is light on I-95.

IVAN was the worst, DO NOT STAY IF OYU CAN LEAVE!!! it ain't worth it. property cand "things" can be replaced. plywood the doors and windows, gather up the lawn funtirure and store it in the shop, garage or someplace. then LEAVE!!!

not meaning to rant, jsut that i have seen people do some STUPID things during a hurricane and not live to tell about it. i'll pray for you folks.

Bam a is right. Remember when Camille came to the Gulf coast. Whole hotel full of college kids decided on a hurricane party in Biloxi. They never found anything of them or the hotel.

the last hurricane i went through was katrina, nothing happened to us. what got me was IVAN. we lived 36 miles INLAND. we had 150 mph SUSTAINED WINDS, with GUSTS of up to 250 mph. a class 5 hurricane. i was sitting in my recliner, power went at 12:30 am, there i am stretched out watching it on the tv. power goes out. then at 2:15 am, the back of our roof goes floating off. an 8 foot by 35 foot section of our roof is gone........jsut gone. the house was/is (it's still there today but another owner, lol) 82 feet long. and it is pouring down rain, FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT. trust me folks. it is an eary feeling listening to oyur shingles go flying off, sounds like rats in the ceiling. then oyu see the walls go in and out and think the house os gonna explode.

LEAVE if oyu are in the path of this PLEASE!!!

some folks did the same ting during FREDRICK top, bodies found on the beach a few weeks later. fredrick was in 79. lisa was living in mobile and was a sophmore or junior in high school. went without power or water for over 6 weeks. after ivan we weren't out cause i got a generator 2 days afterwards and we had well water.

Thank you Bama. I'm far inland enought that I'm cool right where I'm at. But they say we still may see gust up to 40 miles an hour in my area. If I was at the coast though, I'd have been gone yesterday. Never fails though, all day long people on the beach talking about they aren't going to leave. People out ther trying to surf till the wind gets so bad the get blown back away from the water. Crazy

Looks like it's gonna keep away from me. Got some rain and a little wind but the bad part stayed away. Pretty sure the folks on the coast and outter banks could use some prayers though.
