Default Boy do I like beavers

You know, the short furry kind with flat tails . I know for some they can be a pain in the a$$. But for me this year they are a friend to be welcomed. Most of my life there were no beavers around our area. But the last 20 years they have made a comback, and for the first time in my lifetime, my favorite lake near my home has a couple. The reason I am thrilled about this is because they are readily dropping trees along shore creating some great downfalls and bass cover in the lake. There were a few downfalls already in the lake, but they were very old and not much left of them. Now thanks to the beavers, new structures to draw bass are being formed. Also, I've fished off shore at this lake as well as from a boat my whole life. And over the years, the low hanging branches of the large trees along the shore, as well as the overgrown brush has made casting very tough to accomplish for the past several years. Now there are new openings being made by the trees being felled by the beavers making casting easier to do. There are now areas where the casting area is free of branches and twigs to snag when your trying to cast. Adds a whole new meaning to "Leave it to Beaver".

Most of the places I fish have beavers the only time they are annoying is when they start slapping the water with their tails in front of were you are fishing .

Oh Jim, gotta tell this short story. The first time I realized there were beavers on the lake was early spring this year. I was in the boat near a downfall. Didn't realize it had been taken down by a beaver yet, but just assumed it was due to a fierce storm a couple days earlier. This HUGE beaver had gotten within about 10 foot from my boat before he realized I was there. "WHAM"!!! He slapped that tail on the water and about made me jump right outta the boat. Boy oh boy those tail slaps are loud!!!

I have had them follow me up and down the shore playing slap the surface the whole time enough to where we just packed it in and went to a different pond .
