Default cheap reel covers

i cut a notch in the bottom of 1 gal zip lock freezer bags and slide them over my reels. may not be as good as the ones you buy at bps but if you loose one or tear it easy to replace.

I couldn't see how that would prevent chips?

At about $5 per reel cover, I find it's the small investment is well worth it to protect my $200+ reels.

But to each his own I guess.

How about this...take a cheap tarp from Walmart, cut a section big enough to cover the reel and a bit of the rod, maybe 10" in diameter, and glue some Velcro around the edge (hook side of the Velcro not quite halfway around, felt side of the Velcro on the opposite side). Kind of like a clam shell with Velcro on the inside of the "lips."
Better than nothing, cheap, and easy to replace.

Reel covers are cheap enough to just buy..Protecting gear is something I wouldnt cut corners on (especially when banging banks like me).Im not a fan of the neoprene covers..They kink my line and are a pain to put on sometimes..
The ziplock idea seems like they would blow all over the place and offer no ''reel'' protection..Yea I know that's the gayest thing Ive said today.

My Dad found these and ordered us some.(I need to order more)...They're a little more but worth it imo..little bulky but Ive yet to see anything else this heavy duty...Snap right over the reel and doesnt kink my line...Down at the bottom of the site.

Cut a white athletic sock off at the heel, cut a hole in the middle of the toe. Insert the rod handle through the hole in the toe and slide it over the reel. If you want to secure it, use a piece of cord and tie it off. This doesn't work so well for spinning reels, though.
I should patent this....................
Now if I can only solve the problem of all that white lint in my rod locker.

I don't care for the idea a plastic bag over reels due to moisture being trapped.
