Good day on the Potomac

Finally some decent numbers. Nothin big, 1.75-2.50 range, however the numbers were excellent. Photo is not me but my partner. We take pictures of each-others fish then e-mail em' later. Everything caught on worms and spinnerbait.

Cranky....maybe I'll see you out there. I'm in a tourney there on Saturday. Were in a older model red/white bassboat. Apparenlty all this rain lately hasn't affected them like I thought. Was there alot of debris in the water from being flushed out from all the creeks?

No problem Hef, good luck, where are you launching at, if it's close, run into Quantico Creek just under the bridge, on the bank in front of you will see it run out to a point, there is a duck blind on that point, start there in that grass bed with a buzzbait or horny toad first thing in the morning if you have either a high or in coming tide work back toword the base, you should have a limit in about 20 minutes!!! I was using a white buzzbait, I think if I was out there now it would be black/copper flake skirt with copper blades. Be careful out there dude, no need to run WTO and tear something up or hurt yourself!! Semper Fi!

Hef, I went back out today, and it was terrible. Debris everywhere, super muddy water. Between the two of us we were able to catch a grand total of zero! I wouldn't even reccommend operating a boat on it right now. Sorry, but good luck anyway. It may recede and clear up by this weekend.

Gunny is also right about being careful. There are many areas of the Potomac even right in the middle of the Washington channel that drop to two feet or less. I don't know where your'e going to be but good luck. We were near the woodrow wilson bridge today the spoils/bellehaven

dang... well what baits would you suggest? ill be shore fishing unless i can get to go with someone

I have no idea at this point. Can usually produce w/ topwater before sunup/sundown. Any soft plastic worked slow near deeper water mid-day. And spinnerbait burned fast w/pauses in the evening

high waters pushes bass up to the new banks and they are shallow
if the water is stained I'd use a flashy spinnerbait
and to slow down I'd use a junebug worm, or black bug.
Fish feed like crazy when the water is rising...its new bank for them, grass is under water, new trees to explore that used to be 15 feet away from the shores etc
Flooded new timber and woods are my fav way to flip for bass on Brookeville lake, it happens about once every spring

JB is correct for Brookeville Lake, but you talking the Potomac river, as different as night and day, this is a tidal river!! Water will rise and fall twice every day, even with the rain and the higher water level, it will still go down twice a day!!! They will be in the flooded brush, but all the time, when that tide starts to turn out, they will move out with it!! The Potomac can be a very delicate fishery!!

yes Gunny, its my home lake, we live 35 minutes from the ramp..ya ever fish it? I've been fishing it since they made it in the 70s

JB heck yeah, I grew up in Shelby County!! Caught my first Walley on Brookville night fishing with my dad in the late 70's! Haven't been there in along time though.

You got the delicate fishery part right. Potomac is hard to master.

I assume that is Smallwood State Park?? If so you can stay in Mattowoman, but you'll be sharing water with 150 other boats!! I would still run across to Quantico Creek and hit that first weed bed. Don't worry about that low tide stay there until the tide changes. You should get at least 17-20 pounds out of there!! I haven't been out there since the rain, but I have hit it the last 2 weeks before it and had 20+ lb sack each day in there. You can maybe get 13-15 out of Mattowoman, I wouldn't waste my time in there, because everyone else will be there. In coming tide will be the best over there in Quantico Creek. Or the back of the Chick by the first marker!
