Default Completed Rod Build 5/31/10

Well, I finally glued the butt section on this morning and stuck a fork in it, it is done. First, thanks to Walker, Joe, and Tim for all the help. This is my new worm rod: St Croix SC II blank, 7' MH-Fast action, Fuji reel seat, Alps guides, and a cork/EVA combo handle. I kept the wraps simple and used metallic blue/black on the guides and hook keeper, and used black/ met blue / and electra black in the split grip. I have been working off and on on this baby for about 2 months. I have practiced on some older rods, and repaired some for a buddy before I dove off on it. I tried to get it done before I left for Singapore, but I just couldn't make it happen. But this is definitely an addiction associated with our passion for fishing. Here are a few pictures. I can't wait to try it out and pop the cherry on a fat bass hahahaha.

Congratulations Bubba! Looks like you did a great job! I really like what you did in the split grip, that thread is called Electra Black? I've never seen that before but I like it a lot.

I'm impressed with your finish. It looks nice and level on the split grip and looks perfect on the guides. I have epoxy footballs on the guides of my first rod, your's looks nice and smooth and tapered. That was the hardest part for me to learn to do well.

You did a great job man! You are going to feel like an expert after this. You learn so much on your first one, the rest will come easier and more naturally. Catching your first fish on a rod you built is an amazing feeling. I have pictures of my first bass on each rod that I've built. Hope your's is a big one!

You gonna start on the greenie before you leave again?

I doubt it, I don't have any guides, seat, or handle ordered for it. I have everything in my cart at mudhole, but I am thinking about the micros. Decisions, decisions. I put a hefty coat on the split grip and used a straw to blow the humps out while it was turning. I found the electra black in Houston at the shop I bought the green blank. It was the first time I had seen it too. I just about had a cussing match wrapping the split with 3 threads. I couldn't keep them separated so I opened my clippers and split them with it. But I am happy with it. I just hope I didn't wrap the guides too tight and end up snapping it on a gorilla hookset.

Great job Curado! I know how hard you have been working on this rod, and it is something to be proud of for sure.

Nice job bubba. That's the first time I've ever seen the thread in the grip but it is a cool addon and the color choices... very nice. Now you just need to reel it and slam a hog on it.

I got the idea from looking at Waffle and Jrob's builds on threading the split. I was going to keep it low on flare, but the balance had moved forward. The extra thread and epoxy helped bring it back in check.

Curado, that looks great man! I was thinking it would look good with a Scorpion XT 1500.

You guys are making me want to get back to rod building...
