New Motor
After 15 years my Honda 50/35 jet has has been replaced. Last night was my first use of the new motor. I ended up with an Evenrude E-Tec 40 prop job. Wanted a steel prop but funds are thin. Called a shop about an hour away and asked the price. Owner knocked it down a bit and said bring it in today and the motor was ready the next day. Now that is service..
It has 3 years no service and no break in. 6 year warranty. Observations from first evening. Ran so quite that you hardly know it is running. Good mid-range power Smooth 4 mph running. Checking fuel usage as it seems to burn a wee bit more than the Honda. Nice feature that auto fogs the engine right from the controls. Lighter than my old motor by 40 lbs. Boat sits better in water However on getting the boat up it really digs deep before popping up. Most likely just the prop doing its thing. Time will tell if losing a large portion of my wallet was worth it. Right now very happy. Capt Mike

It's a boat so you are constantly throwing money into it. Congrats on the new power, those new 'rude E-tecs are supposedly something. I've never owned one but I wish you good luck!

So bought a motor cart for about 60 bucks and put the Honda motor on it Saturday. Sunday I was getting ready to move it to my fishing shed and a random guy driving by asks if it was for sale. YES it is. Bang cash in hand 15 minutes later and it is gone....
Showed him how to fix it and the issue with it. Put all the bolts in place by hand and off it went. Capt Mike

You should get a good 7 or 8 years out of that motor (based on 200 hours a year, run time) ... maybe.

Well I can live with those numbers. 47 trips a year and maybe 2 hours of running per trip is about 100 hours. Most of the running is in NO WAKE zone.
Heck may get a few more years out of it. Capt Mike

Yeah ... 1500 hours, average lifespan of a 2-stroke engine before major rebuild necessity. If you're putting the national average of 100 hours a year ... you can get 15 years.
4-strokes are expected to go 3500 to 7500 hours. (depending on manufacturer) Of course, all that time depends on proper and frequent maintenance procedures and keeping the engine clean, inside and out. |
