They are claiming 10.12 kg, which per an online calculator is 22.310780933121997 pounds. This is a serious contender.

The world record is gonna fall. Either this fish, or sooner or later. Too many bass transplanted into foreign waters where the bass are unnaturally well equipped to take over.

I agree, but this proves the point I have been screaming for years. The new world record will be unnatural and derived from putting a foreign fish in waters where it has unfair advantages. I always thought it would be california, where the fish is not native and fed trout, instead looks like it was japan and the fish was fed koi.

More Crappy Translating - (Updated 7/4/09)

As best I can summarize before the actual translating: He (reporter) was returning from a previous trip and had been out late that night. It is still unclear even from the translator whether it is a lure or live bait that was used, though if I had to guess from the couple translator programs I ran I'd say it was. However, it apears to not have been caught on the "Mother" swimbait as was originally speculated. It also appears to have been caught in deep open water. Rod and line are listed at the bottom of the translation. There is also some discussion about how Texas has spent about $18 million dollars trying to genetically create the world record largemouth and the subsequent tourist draw around their giant bass producing lakes (Lake Fork).
Now for the crappy translator:

At this point I'll just sit back and wait and let the regular media fill in all the details.
