To be fair to our youth movement here, I will say that we've had some "adult"-generated postings that have caused me to worry and wonder.
Sure, some of the kids seem breathless and new-puppy eager, but they ARE, after all, kids. It's our responsibility to encourage and assist in any way we can. Further, while not specific to fishing (but definitely specific and critical to life,) we need to set a good example re courtesy, GRAMMAR AND SPELLING, and various other "role model" categories. I suspect that sometimes a youngster, even an adult newcomer, repeats his or her question because initial replies were difficult to understand or were, worse yet, from someone who always feels a need to orate, opine (and impress) even if he hasn't any true knowledge or practical experience/success re the subject at hand. "Those who can, do. Those who cannot, teach." Obviously, there are those here who are whizzes both in knowledge and achievement, so that old saw doesn't truly reflect reality here. Still, there is SOME truth to it. Let's face it; Some great theorists, innovators, and quoters-of-that-which-is-already-in-the-book are lousy fishermen. I suspect some kids who visit forums, be said forums oriented toward fishing, hunting, accordion repair, or whatever, have no positive male influence in their lives. Perhaps they DO have a good adult male influence close to them, but he's not interested in those things a kid comes here to ask about, discuss, and dream of doing. So, like it or not, we are surrogate fathers, big brothers, "uncles", etc, and need to conduct ourselves accordingly. Just think about it, OK? FR |
