Paddle tails as Trailers to Chatterbaits

I'm interested in looking at some different brands of paddle tails similar to the one I've posted below. If you know of brands other than Bass Assassin please post them and if you've used them this way.

I use the skinny dipper by reaction innovations. I use it more on just regular swim jigs. Typically on chatterbaits I use a craw trailer or a fluke.

I've used the Skinny Dipper but not as a trailer. I think they're a little long and not as durable as the BA bait.

Anyone use the Yamamoto Swim Bait? What's the tail action on that?

3d i bite the head off the dippers when i use them and i do agree with you on the durabilty but the action they give a swim jig is awesome not only does the tail paddle back and forth it makes a 3/8oz jig roll back and forth as well really gives it a nice look caught a lot of fish doing this. tried yamamoto swiming senko doesnt give it the rolling effect that the dipper does. over and around grass it is a killer look. I use a war eagle pond scum finesse jig with a green pump/ watermelon dipper and it looks amazing very good blue gill imitator. i tried just the little dipper doesnt get the rolling action either. give it a shot i cant imagine youll be disappointed. I know you fish the potomac a lot I have had a lot of success with that combination down there too good luck buddy.

It's ok, I used it weightless though, might be better with a keel weighted hook though.

thumb - the swimming senko doesn't have the depth I'm looking for. The skinny dipper doesn't have a good shad color (or one that I'm not aware of).

Here's a pic of the Yama Swim Baits that I'm looking at. The 3.5 in looks to be a little thicker than the BA that I use. Plus they come in some decent colors.

I've used the Yamamoto swimming senko before as a trailer. Not sure if it's different from the swim bait. I've caught some real nice bass on them in ponds but haven't tried them much anywhere else.

3d, take a look at the 3.5" Strike King Shadilicious swimbaits as a trailer. I've had a lot of success swimming a white/blue or sexy shad colored jig using those swimbaits.

I've started using these paddle tails after I won a pack in a raffle. They have a good action and come in various sizes.
I put one on a chatterbait this week and liked the action.

3d, I know this may be hard for you to do, but could you post a video of this in action? I am interested. I don't have any chatter baits, but do have buzzbaits. I am wondering if maybe this would work with them also. Thanks pal.

Rod - Thanks I'll have to test it out but I don't think the hollow belly baits will hold up on the bait in the cover I'm fishing. Problem that I see is keeping up close to the skirt. More than likely it will slide down the hook. I've got a pack of those so I'll have to see.

Cassidy - Good looking bait. How thick are the 3.5 and 5"??? I'm looking for a bigger profile than the BA's that I'm using.

Bama - The only way I can put up a video is for me to run one in the bath tub. It's a little cold out right now. Most of the ponds in the area are frozen and I haven't had my boat out in weeks. Next warm front we get and I have some time I'll get out and get a clip for you.

Anyone know of any custom 3" sassy shads that are made in a quality shiner or shad finish?

Thanks buddy. I am re-doing my tackle right now as well. We haven't had a single day above 40 degrees and now it is starting to rain..............AGAIN! Only this time it may turn to sleet, ice and snow. And ya'll don't give me greif about how ya'll got it worse, cause i know you do. I just HATE winter, lol.

I only have the 3.5" ones right now. The are not that much bigger than the same size BA, but their action makes them appear so.

The paddletails work great as trailers on spinnerbaits. Haven't tried them on chatterbaits. I used chewed up Yum Money Minnows and Yamamoto swimbaits.

I looked at the Fat Money Minnows and those could work but cost $8-9 for a pack. I was given a tip to glue the head to the shank of the hook to keep them on. Here's a pic of it. I also found the BPS Squirmin Shad, only $2.50 a bag, and they look really good too (I picked up two bags to test out).

Got to figure out how to download/upload the .3g2 file to my 'puter. Media player won't open it. I've never put a video shot from a cell phone online either so getting one on youtube or another similar site is not likely either.

If you really want it then PM me a cell phone number that I can send the file to and you can watch it (maybe) on the phone.

BPS doesn't have their shad in the catalog and the two colors I picked up at the store aren't in the picture....

No don't use the fat minnows! They hardly have any action!

3d i would have to agree with bassboss, the fat money minnow has almost no kick and very slight roll. I think if you put it on a jig it would look dead. I have been throwing the yamamoto swim baits on an omega swim jig (3/8 oz) in threadfin shad and praying mantis. I use the blue pearl/silver color for the threadfin shad and the green pumpkin (which looks more like chartreuse root-beer) for the praying mantis. I love the action it imparts on the jig, and although I have not put it to the test on a blade bait, I believe you would achieve similar results.
