Default Outfished by........the Wife!!

We went fishing as a family and with one of our friends on Saturday evening, from about 5 pm to 8:30 pm at a local pond. We had a blast, especially since we caught a couple of fish. We are both new to Bass fishing, so catching normal size or small ones for us is a lot of excitement. My wife was throwing a buzz bait (she thinks they are fun to throw since you can see them) and caught 1 fairly early, just an average size. My friend then caught one. I had 1 and lost it when it got to the surface and jumped a little. I was using a top water broke back.

About an hour later, she caught that big one in the picture. We were not prepared to weigh it and see how much it was.

Well, I tried everything in the tackle box....crank baits, top waters, buzz bait (since it worked for her!!), a swimming jig, and all different depth swim baits and could not land one. (I lost 2 more trying to reel them in)

Finally, right before we left to go home, I decided to throw a Texas rigged worm and see what would happen. Only had it in there twitching for about 30 seconds and I felt the line tighten up. I thought I had a stick, but set the hook anyway and reeled the one in the pic out. The wife was relieved and exclaimed that she would not have to put up with me pouting the rest of the night! I was relieved too, ha ha.

Well, I walked back towards our stuff and decided to throw the worm again. Twitched it a couple of times and felt it again. This one I lost though when it got to the surface and flipped. Maybe I need to set the hook better? Either way, it is just good to know that the stuff you throw can catch fish. I still have not landed one or had much success with anything other than a Texas rigged worm. So I may have to keep practicing my retrieve techniques.

You can tell you guys are new to bass fishing because you're not holding the fish out from your body toward the camera to make it look bigger.

Congrats! those are nice fish, tons of fun ain't it?

Yeah, it is a lot of fun. We had a really good time.

She said she wanted to make a funny expression, something different.

*update from "the Wife":

Within the next couple of days catching "the big one" I lost my buzzbait on a stump off shore! Maybe thats Karma for making sure that everyone knew that my catch was larger than "the Husbands!" Oh well, just have to catch them off a new bait...maybe I will try that Texas rigged worm I have heard so much about! ;0)
