Default Chatterbaits

What is the consensus here on fishing Chatterbaits regarding rod and line? I have read everything all over the map on this with line ranging from 10lb to 17lb mono, or floro all the way to 50lb braid. Rod choices range from 6'6" Med, MH to 7'.

I use a chatterbait on anything I use a spinnerbait on. So a 6' -6'6" M or MH, 15-20 lb mono. Your choices are pretty much in the right ballpark, in my opinion anyways.

I prefer to use a medium heavy graphite casting rod, a 6.3 : 1 or so gear ratio casting reel, and either 14 pound copoly or mono, or 30 pound braid.

It is a single hook bait so I throw it on a 6-6 MH action rod, a 6.3:1 reel and 12 lb P-Line Floroclear.

7' mh rod 17lb fluorocarbon or 50lb braid depending on where we are fishing . Add a trailer hook to it as well and you'll bring in a few more .

Thanks for the comments. I was wondering if a trailer hook might be needed.

It's not really needed but it helps sometimes and I only throw one on when I am retrieving the bait faster rather than crawling it back to me to help with short strikes

Always go with a trailer hook! You will learn the hard way if you dont!

So , how did they do ? I bought a micro white , and black recently. Figured it might be good for pressured lakes.
