If it is a single hook spoon it might be a weedless spoon-has a wire weed guard on it-which is good for fishing in the slop with a grub or port trailer. If it has a treble hook on it there are several ways to fish it. Jigging it is probably the most popular. Fish it vertically by letting it sink to the bottom then raise it off the bottom and let it flutter back down. This is a good cold water technique. My favorite way to fish one is to use it when fish are schooled up hitting shad on the surface. Cast it over the schooling fish and crank it back through the school as fast as you can. You can get some fast and furious action doing this. One piece of advice: Be sure to use a swivel-a spoon will twist the you-know-what out of your line.
