Default St Croix Legend Extreme

I havd 3 St Croix Mojo's and like them a lot..although the flipping Mojo has taken a backseat to the BPS Carbonlite flipping rod. Anyway I'm thinking of getting the Legend Extreme in the 7ft MH fast for pitching plastics.

Can anyone who has one give a review of the rod? How it compares to the Mojo? I got to handle the 7 ft 6 in model yesterday and it felt petty good. Just don't wan to drop that kind of cash on something... well, thats not worth that kind of cash.

Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
I own a 7' MHF Extreme, but since I do not have the same in the Mojo, I will have to compare another model.

I own both a Mojo 76MHMF, and an Extreme 76MHMF.

The Extreme is noticeably lighter, but the Mojo is ever so slightly stiffer. My belief is that St. Croix (and other rod manufacturers) have sort of over-rated the power of their high-end rods in the pursuit of "lightest rod" bragging rights. I.e, there's a bit more material in the Mojo blank. I'm not sure that necessarily makes the Mojo any stronger though.

Is the Extreme $280 dollars better than the Mojo? Probably not. I wouldn't pay it. (I only paid $240 for mine, vs. $399 list.)

It will come down to how much you like Recoil guides. I love them, but again, not $280 worth of love.

I am currently using my 7' MHF for topwaters, but it is a pretty stout rod, and I think you could pitch plastics pretty well with it. It is very sensitive, though obviously that doesn't help me much with spooks and buzzbaits. I did C-rig with it for a while in figuring out what to use it for, and it is a very versatile rod.

A word of warning if you buy it. You might find yourself wanting more....and your wallet (and other hobbies) will hate you for it.

NoFear,
Thanks for the reply.
I have 2 7ft MHF and 1 7'6" Mojo. When I looked at the 7 and half footer Extreme, I took my Carbonlite with me. The only thing I didn't love about the Extreme was the rod felt a little bit tip heavy with a Steeze reel on it...I can balance that out and....for some reason St croix puts the hook hanger where the line will get behind it sometimes. I can fix that as well...I'm going to try (key word TRY" to order mine without a hook hanger....I'm not going to hold my breath for that though.

As far as other hobbys....All I do is fish. As a matter of fact my sweet wife frequently brings me dinner out to the barn where I am messing with the boat ..think she's dropping hints? lol

Thanks again!!
Rpn
