just more thinking
all my tackle is squared away and i was watchin youtube vids of all the pros, and somthing just floated in to the ticker.. i see old vids of kvd, stacy king and rick clunn, using dif rods and the new vids they seen to run all there brand tackle and of course skeet reese as well. Do you think they really fish that stuff when the camera is off or there ins't any people watchin them fish, i mean love the kvd cranks and think they catch fish, but do you think he only picks up his sponsers stuff becasue of just that, or did they start liking strike king then get hooked up with them because they liked them.
.. say all KVd does is fish his brand of rods and reels, if he is landing them on his stuff, is all the croixs, lommises and falcon rods just pure creature comfort.. not knocking no one as my last bait monkey post i am def including myself and not gonna change. to be honest i havnt seen any anglers with croix, loomis, falcon or finwick sponsers, i am sure there is though, just burps for thought and all opnions welcome, after all this is the site were the working mans pro hangout

I think they fish their rods all the time. They are so high profile that I doubt there is ever a moment when they are on the water that someone isn't watching them. But at the same time, I really doubt if the rods that they use and the ones you can buy in a store have much in common other than their appearance. I have always assumed that although their rods look like the ones bought in stores, they most likely are built on better blanks with better components. I think the same thing applies to their reels.

Supposedly if thier names on it (signiture rods and such) now days it was probably designed to meet thier wishes and wants with thier input. So ya, thier probably fishing sponsers reels and poles.
Lures, probably when the situation dictates it's use but otherwise a tool is a tool. . Brand of tool is strictly preference. Again if the Pro's actual input was used in developing stages it should be exactly what he wants and hence uses. I agree with carolina on being different from what is put on shelves. If you use a Loomis Blank to build your own rods you techniquely have a Loomis rod in the end. Just my guess because I really have no idea.

I would think they would use their sponsers products, top to bottom. Why risk loosing a good sponser you worked so hard to get?

I somewhat disagree. I posted a video on here a while back where KVD was giving a tour of his boat. He opened a compartment and there was a spool of Seaguear Tatsu in there. He quickly grabbed it and tossed it out of the cameras view but it still made the rounds on the internet and anglers all over the place got a good laugh out of it. I think that when possible they use their sponsors products, but if there is another product that will do a better job in a certain situation then I think they will use it. However, that isn't to say that they won't claim to have caught their fish on one of their sponsors products.

These guys fish for a living, sponsor or not. It is what supports them. And they have to be winning with the image of using their sponsor's product. I think that they would primarily use their signature product because they have their hand in it. But I bet if RC told KVD that they the bigger fish were killing a Lucky Strike 2.0 Purple/Black, you would find 1 in the mix of SKs on the deck of his boat.
Look at Paul Elias smashing the records in 08 on Falcon. He caught a majority of the fish on the Luhr-Jenson Hot Lips crank. I have never seen that patch on his shirt, but I see Manns posted all over him. He even talked about how he cut one of his cranks off and gave it to Ish Monroe when wouldn't quit encroaching on him and gave him the spot for the day. I bet a nickel to a nipple Ish threw the paint off of it. But Paul did mention that he caught a couple of fish on the jelly worms and emphasized how he made his travel partner wait on him so he could go back in the garage an get them because he knew he wouldn't be feel right about leaving them. He got his plug in and made Manns stick on the people, but just briefly covered what the Hot Lips did for him and moved on. BTW, Kory, KVD is sponsored by BPS, they probably gave it to him the line, so it is all good hahahahaha.

It was rumored that one of the reasons Daiwa dropped Ike was that he refused to fish with his signature series rods and chose the Steez rods instead.
There have also been cases where pro's have not used the rods they say they do. If I recall correctly, it Byron Velvick and those white Duckett rods. He claimed to have won a big tourney on them throwing Rago BV3D swimbait, but the footage from the tournament shows his slinging the swimbait on a black rod. So I'm sure a lot them use the gear they say they do and advertise, but there are definitely those that don't. Also, this brings up the question like Kory said, are the products pros fish in tournaments built to the same level of performance as those sold in stores. What I mean is, is say Skeet Reese fishing with a much better rod than those yellow sticks you pick up off the shelves of BPS, that just looks the same? Or are pro's fishing with modified reels that just look the same? (Not targeting Skeet or anything, just an example) BB

Go to youtube and type Paul Elias on Falcon. There are 6 or 7 videos in 10 min sessions with home talking about his win on Falcon.
