Aerial Combat (pics)
Saw four Turkey Buzzards circling the field next to our house, and some of the other birds weren't to happy about them being there. BB

BigB, either you have one heck of a camera, or you have quite a career opportunity as a photographer.

You should seriously look into selling some of your photos. Could be a new career for ya.

Leave it to them little birds to piss off the big ones!
Mocking birds and blue jays do the same thing to hawks, and ospreys down here!

Photog...if I were you, I would see if they would get you the 18-200 VR instead of those two lenses. Usually that would be foolish, but it is a better lens than either of those.

i like the 55-200.
Next is a decent external flash, and a tamron 70-300 macro lens. my uncle has one and i love it, and my camera has the autofocus motor to drive it too!

yeah i know. i've been doing this my whole life. thus the screen name
<<< haha. i have been shooting quite a while, mainly shooting with advanced point and shoots that are full manual and whatnot, so its basically the same without the lens change. then my uncle got his D60 2 years ago, and i have more logged frames than he does on it. Heres my favorite aerial combat. i had to do some quick edits and put em up on FB last night, then went to bed. i should have shot some more, but it was starting to rain, and i was tired. Now i've gotta see if i've got any 52 mm filters

Photog, I understand the rush to buy a lot of lenses, but I really can't stomach not at least giving you some advice on that Tamron.
First off, Tamron should be sued for even advertising that thing as a "macro" lens. Macro lenses have at least a 1:1 image reproduction, while the Tamron is only capable of 1:2. Also, its minimum focusing distance is 37 inches, while a true macro lens will typically let you get to within 12 inches or less. That means you can't really close enough to bugs and flowers to effectively control your aperture and depth of field for the nice artistic shots. Don't fall prey to the cheap price tag of plastic lenses, just because you can get 300mm focal length. I wouldn't ever pay less than $200 for a lens, with my 50mm f/1.8 prime being the only exception. Cameras come and go, but good glass lasts forever. Wait a while longer and buy a real, metal body lens. In the long run, you will be very glad you did. P.S. I am not a fan of Nikon's 70-300mm zoom either. It's a crappy lens too...full of distortion just like the Tamron. I just consider 300mm zooms a waste of money when you already have a 200mm zoom. Just more gear to lug around, for barely more zoom. A sharper (better) 200mm zoom will beat the pants off of a crappy 300mm zoom.

well, i understand the macro deal, and that lens. my uncle and I are looking into true macros, but i like the macro ability of that lens. I have no problem with the plastc lenses over metal body lenses. saves alot of weight to me.
Tamrons are nice, and l like the 70-300. its not mine, so i'm not too concerned with it, but if someones giving me one, i'm not going to turn them away. I'm an all around photographer and dont pin myself down to one thing, so i need the ability to gain every inch i can, but be able to multi-task with one lens. That's why i like both my 55-200 and the 70-300. The 300 is enough to get good facial pictures of the pitcher, and still put the left fielder in a decent size of the photo, and then i can turn around and shot a macro of the person standing next to me shoe lace. i dont do enough real macro to get really close, and i'd rather telemacro than be up close, because i'm not going to be able to put the camera by a rattlesnake. There also, the 200 is still a good quality lens, and has put out quite a bit of great photos for me in the past just dosent get as close as i'd like for some things where i'm already standing as close as I can get. I like it since it'll go back to 55, and i can stand back a bit and get the congregation, then zoom in for the kiss at a wedding. and i never have to dig in the bag for anything. Sorry for jacking the thread anthony

Haha....if you don't want to "dig in the bag", you would LOVE the 18-200 VR. True, it costs a bit more than your two lenses combined (around $750), but a big time saver with great image quality.
I didn't catch they were giving you the 70-300. I guess a free lens is truly the best lens of all.
