$ stroke or 2 stroke that is the ?
I would like to know which one do the majority of you prefer. and what are the pros and cons of both. I have found the boat that I want and now it is time to decide which motor that I want go with. The boat is the stratos 176 XT and I believe they say that maximum rec. engine is a 75, so which motor would best suit this boat.

2 stroke.. the 2 strokes get out of the hole better and have a higher top end on average.. ok so ya have to buy 2 stroke oil for it -whoopee doo- ya got to buy oil for all of them..
4 strokes #1 cost alot more to begin with.#2 do NOT save you fuel when bass fising. #3 when they break -they all break- it cost out the azz to get it fixed.. let me be clear on this 4 stroke moters ONLY get better gas milage than 2 strokes while at an idle or trolling..bass fishing you do not do a whole lot of either.. trust me with a 75 horse moter you will run it wide open most of the time.. only when you get in the 115 and above horse power moters do you "cruise"... oh yeah an one more thing never ever tell your insurance company the boat runs over 50 mph.-reguardless of how fast it goes- zooker

Thanks Zooker, your input is always appreciated. I think that I will go with the 2 stroke because the diff. in $ money is pretty big, and I think that the 2 stroke will perform fine for what it is going to be used for.

Usually 4 Strokes are usually quieter, but its not worth it at all for Bass Fishing.

I couldn't find any reason to get a 4 stroke. It seems that the 4 stroke "buzz" has died off a little bit in the bass boat world. Of course bigger is always better!

At least the 2 I posted have some type of front decks, not sure if you could fish off them or not, but at least something. I have not seen water calm enough or big enough up here to get my little boat all trimmed out, so a jet motor is out of my league.
Stick to 2 stroke like most bass boats and you should not regret it. |

The only reason at this time to get a 4 stroke is if you live in an area that has lake restrictions on 2 stroke motors, I'm not sure, but I think CA is about the only place for that.
4 stroke motors weigh more, but they are quieter. |
