LC Gunfish...
About to purchase a Lucky Craft Gunfish 95 and am wondering what you guys favorite color is. What color is your "go to" color and has caught you the most fish early in the morning? Thanks for your input.

I'm a big fan of the American Shad and Aurora Black patterns.

I don't have the LC Gunfish but I have an LC popper in the MS Black and it works very well.

I like the shad color as well, (american shad) but I think those lures are way overpriced personally....the Rapala popper works just as good for me, and is less than half as much in cost....the good old Heddon's still work too, and are just a tad less yet

Well every condition you fish in may vary a bit and the 'best' color might be a pearl white for your specific conditions on average. Typically in lower light conditions, a darker color will be more productive for me (and in general IMO) but in practice, the fish is looking up at the topwater lure like that, and they most all will be light colored on bottom, form a side angle a bait that is really bright early in the AM will look more out of place....I'd go with my experience in the places you fish most though regardless, if you're just trying to start with, I would recommend going to something more like a standard shad pattern though.....hope this didn't confuse you more!

Same here. Keep in mind that although we tend to pick topwater baits that have color patterns that look good to us, but all that really comes in to play is the bottom of the bait and the lower part of the sides because that is all the fish will see.

what is the difference between a gunfish and a sammy? Which one would be a better purchase?

I don't think you can say that one bait is any better than the other, they both have their places. But if I was going to choose between the two I would personally say the Gunfish. It still has the walk the dog action like the Sammy but also spits water like a popper.

You won't be sorry, looks like you ordered some very proven topwaters!
By the way, keep that monkey. It's nothing but trouble. |
