Persistance pays off, keep trying obviously. If you have some extra cash, go fetch your self some braided line, if you're not breaking off, but the fish is throwing the hook all the time then try a crank bait. It would help if you would supply more information about what you have tried and the way the fish keeps getting away from you.

ive tried bigger hooks, ive tried different plastics, and ive tried spinnerbaits.ill get the fish about 20ft away from the bank, and hell make 1 last jump, and he always slings it out there. ive been keeping tension on it and setting the hook much harder.

do you sharpen your hooks? or just use your baits right out of the package.
Just asking because even gamakatsu hooks are not sharp enough right out of the package.

Becky is totally right on the money! Plus let him take the a bit a little longer. Give him a chance to get that lure in his yap for a good time so your hook set can be deeper! Also keep your rod tip up in the air and don't give him much slack. keep the tension on you reel a bit higher than normal you can adjust it during the fight. also when I'm fishing I use a landing net with a six foot reach. I can't count how many times I lost a fish at the side of the boat or on shore, because I didn't have a net!

Good luck catching that monster! Robby.
