Default New Here & Having Fun

Good Afternoon! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the information that I have found on this site.

Being new to fishing (I didn't catch my first fish until two summers ago) and bass altogether (I caught my one and only SM about six weeks ago), finding a forum that is active is a godsend.

So far this summer I have learned about cranks, spinners and how to texas rig a worm. I bought a new pole and rod (nothing too exciting but better than my dad's old thumb reel & pole he had buried in the garage) and a few books. I also bought, lost and replaced tackle too much to count anymore.

But the best part of all of this is I that have two boys (2 & 7 years old) and the fun that we have had getting out and learning this sport together has been incredible. My husband rolls his eyes everytime I tell him we are headed to BPS (and the reason in which I now have a fishing budget...) and I now have a good motivational tool to keep my second grader in line at school.

I look forward to getting to know other members and learning more about bass fishing!

Well looky here, a women who is more into fishing than her husband!! Get him into the game and that fishing budget may just dissapear. Although a word of caution, dont let the baitmonkey run wild, he'll become uncontrollable and before you know it, you wont have much moola left.

With that being said, keep those boys fishing and make yourself at home here on the chit chat boards, plenty of good information, and plenty of the usual BS. Also, make sure that skin is thick, we ahve quite a few jokesters on the board that wont think twice about throwing a joke around at your own expense! Its all fun and games though, and will be sure to give you a laugh here and there.

Welcome to the world of bass catching!

Any given question is bound to get a variety of answers, most generally all are correct, some are more "polished" than others in fine tuning their gear.

Thank you all for the warm reception!

In regards to the thick skin and jokesters - I can hang with the best of them. I am a project manager in an IT group in which all of them are men (at least technically by age they are), so being the woman here that has to give the orders, I have learned a thing or two!

Welcome to the nuthouse. Have fun, join in anytime, and remember to wipe you feet "BEFORE LEAVING", due to some of the stuff on the floor around here.

welcome!!! i am glad your having fun...that's what it is all about, it doesn't matter if you are fishing for a $100,000 payout in a bassmaster tournament or trying to drown a minnow in a farm pond, everyone fishes because they have fun doing it. the best thing i read on your post is that you have gotten your children into fishing as well. my dad has done a lot of great things for me over the years, but i think the best is taking me hunting and fishing as a youngster. i will be grateful for that forever as i am sure your kids will be to you. any questions or advice you need help with i am sure you can find it all right here.

AMEN Carolina!

Welcome Colorado Native! Ask away...great folks here with tons of advice. Bottom line is find out what works for you whether it be a $40 combo at Wally World or something more expensive. As long as you are having fun thats what counts!

If you are ever in the Durango area PM me and Ill give you a couple of the BEST places to catch trout! When I lived in ABQ NM I went up there every other weekend for camping/fishing/4wheeling...tons of fun!

FR...see my avatar? The person on the right, that's me (my oldest son who is seven is on the left) at Cheeseman Lake the weekend they opened the lake again after being closed for years due to a huge wildfire they had up there.

I am crazy, but not crazy enough to post a pic - as a sensible woman - on a site of bass hungry men. LOL

Right! But not like you...LIMBURGER!

I'm more of a sharp Cheddar, myself. But on Bastille Day I tend toward Roquefort (with a hint of Port Salut and a whisper of Camembert...no Brie!)
