Rooster Tail

I picked up some rooster tails today, never caught a bass on one, but hear theyre bass killers...anybody know about this???

They can be. They, along with other inline spinners and regular spoons have saved my phanny many time from going home skunked when everything else I tried failed.

I always keep a few on hand for the "just in case nothing else works" scenario.

Their only drawbacks are they won't fare well in heavy/grassy weedy cover with their stock treble and the lighter ones like the 1/6 oz can be a pain in the rear to cast with a baitcaster.

I see guys use the yellow or white up here in creeks, if I throw on at the lake I usually get warmouth bluegills, but I do know they catch a ton of dif. species of fish....

About beginning of July below the dam on the Wisconsin River in Central Wisconsin you can throw a Mepps Size 3 and hammer the smallmouth. They hit in-line spinners like a ton of bricks. Even the little ones.

I've never caught a bass on one, but they work well for crappie in the lakes and ponds I fish in central North Carolina.

Usually, again I said usually they are small fish baits. Get some of the bigger ones, or a spinnerbait, and you have a better chance of catching bigger fish. It's like using minnows vs shiners. Minnows catch a ton of crappie, once in awhile a bass,and smaller fish, but the shiners catch the bass consistantly.

They are great for smallmouth. I use #2 and #1 yellow.

caught my first bass on one of those. theyre easy to fish, all i did was retrieve it straight. didnt even set the hook... just felt something heavy on my line, and i kept reeling, then i saw the fish.

ya, I've caught bass, trout, bream, whiting, bluefish, even catfish on roostertails. They're pretty great.

dont worry cranky, with trebles you dont really have to set the hook, its a good idea but not necessary

I fish a creek by my hometown quite a bit and rooster tails absolutely slay the rainbow and browns there. Even pull a smallie and a couple perch out once in a while. Its crystal clear and I've found that blue and white seem to produce the best.
