Default Palomar Knot

I have been tying this knot like this for years and never thought to pass this tip along. I just assumed that all knew it.
For those of you who don’t here goes: it works well for young anglers as well for older anglers who might not see too well.
Take the end of the line and put it through the eye of the hook (lure…etc) about 5 inches or so.
Fold that end of the line back and put it back through the eye of the hook (lure…etc) forming a loop in the end of the line with the hook (lure…etc) hanging down and the end of the line against the main portion of the line from the reel.
Continue tying the knot as usual.
Using this method makes it easier to get the line through the eye of the hook (lure…etc)
I started tying the Palomar knot this way when I was young and had trouble getting the doubled section of line through the eye of the hook. I never posted this method of tying the knot before because I thought everyone knew it. I learned this weekend that some people didn’t so I thought I would post it.
Hope this helps someone

Hey Huck, thats a great idea! Thanks for passing it long. I know my eyes are not as good as they used to be and with smaller hook eyes I do have trouble getting that loop through the eye. Sometimes, the obvious answer to our troubles is so obvious. Thanks for pointing this out.

Huck, great tip.

Keith, was that a "Now why didn't I think of that" moment?

I've had several of those

I discovered this one mysself a bit back trying to tie a fly onto my leader. Blasted hook eye was just to small to get a decent loop through. Works great.

I've been tying it that way for as long as I can remember. What blows my mind is why almost all knot instructions tell you to pass the loop through the eye. Very puzzling.
