Default Pond Cover

My friend lives on a private pond that is stocked with bream and bass, some up to 5 or 6 pounds. The only problem with the pond is the lack of consistant cover for the bass. The only real cover for bass is a 6 inch wide PVC pipe that runs about 30 feet out into the lake. My friend and I were considering building small boxes out of 2x4s and plywood, dropping them in 3 different locations around the pond, then kind of chum the water with bread and other meats to attract the baitfish, which would attract the bass to their new homes. We planned on placing them in a triangle around the pond, and doing so would allow us to reach each box and the paths that the bass would travel to get from box to box from shore. Has anyone else ever tried this, or even though about it? Any feedback would be nice...
