Default Fishing With Minnows

I am going to try using minnows to catch some fish at my local pond.

I want to bring a net with me and simply catch them from shore. The pond that I am fishing at ALWAYS has fish busting the surface eating/chasing minnows. There has never been a time that I have gone there and not seen a lot of activity on the surface on the minnows.

What type of hook is recommended for this? I would think I would have to resort to a small aberdeen style hook. How should I hook the minnow? Do I use a float?

I have never fished this way before, but I hope to try it out to see how well it works.
