Question about shakey heads?
Why do they call them shakey heads when they look like simple jig heads, is it the way you fish them?

Well, when you tie the worm on, you shake your rod tip fairly rapidly. When you do this, the head of the jig shakes, in turn shaking the worm. Therefore, you get the Shakey Head!

well, i just call it a jig head worm. it does have to do with the way you work it because when you shake the rod tip up and down the worms head shakes up and down.

Shakey heads always force the nose of the worm down & The tail up. But if you own some floating worms you get the same effect. Just tie a bullet sinker & hook on like T- Rig Worm. Now use a floating worm instead. Since the worm is bouyant the weight will drive the nose down & the tail will float up. Your getting the same effect a shakey head provides. This works best if you peg the sinker. Now you don't need shakey head jigs.

If you look at a true shakey head jighead the eye of the hook is perpendicular rather than parallel to the hook point. The design makes it easier to get a shaking action of the worm.

Can anybody recommend some good Shakey Head jigs? The ones I have now are ok, but the screw on plastic keeper in crap and hard to use with small finesse worms. I've been looking at getting some Spot Remover Jigs.

Spot Remover jigs kick!
You could also try some, (I can't reccommend a brand), with a moveable screw-keeper. I just bought some Bagley Shakey-Head jigs and they look great. They have a special collar to hold the worm on straight. -Lunk-

i like spot removers too. also a buddy of mine pours his own and i get a bunch of them from him. they are just a ball head with no bait keeper on a light wire hook. not sure which i like better, both have there advantages.

For now I just use my St.Croix 7'6'' ML. I'd like to look into a true Shakey Head/Finesse Jig rod next year. Mom's up the wall with all my rods, tackle, lures, worms, etc...

Giggy head
Try these jig heads and you'll turn your back on the Spot Remover Jigs and the screw lock style!
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageGAMBTT-GGH.html They are called Giggy head, easy to use and the line tie is positioned to hold the worm up off the bottom.

Im awaiting the release of the newest shakey head from Megastrike/Evolution Lures. I love there Evolution Jig design, and know the new bait will kick butt as well. Thats the only way Ill turn from the Spot Remover heads.

the right way to shakey head is to move the rod tip side to side, not up and down, also maintaining contact with the bottom, otherwise it is jig-worm fishing, but that works great too!

I am going to use the same rod for all my finesse fishing (dropshot, shakey head, etc.) It is going to be a 7' M Shimano Compre.

Well, I ordered some heads today. Instead of buying the flat headed-jigs that always fall over, I got some football-head Picasso Shake-E-Football Jigs. Since I'm using my 7'6'' ML, I only ordered a smaller size, 1/4 oz. They are a little more expensive than Spot Removers, but Picasso is good quality. I also looked at the Gambler Giggy Heads, but a 5/0 Shakey Head hook was too big for my liking. Here they are:
