Some rods I have been working on
Here is a set I built for a guy and his wife to match their 40th Anniversary Lund in red/grey/black.
This is a 6'6" MHX 782 M-F casting with a 7" grip, 6,5,4mm micro guide set up. This is a Batson RX7 843 MH-F spinning rod I built to match the other one. I built this one with the Castaway wave guide. A lot of people are skeptical of this guide and its purpose, but it is smooth as silk to me. I will be the first to admit, I don't like spinning gear for the fact I am not efficient in casting with it and I hate the noise and line slap they give. With this guide and introducing micro guides, it is eliminated. The line is tamed out the gate and is a smooth rope instead of line slapping all the way to the tip. I had 2 heart breakers building this rod. 1 was when I was static testing, something popped and rod went one way and the tip insert came out. I flexed the rod for damage and all was good, but I had to wait a few days for the tip. Then I had finished the base wrap of the tiger with the third coat and it shucked out of the finisher after I walked out of the room and ruined the epoxy...which led to a strip and redo. But here are some pics of the build: Thanks for the hot sticker JRob: This was a heart breaker.

Wow, they look really nice Bubba!
Really like the concept behind that stripper guide on the spinning rod.

Those turned out nice Bubba! I really like the subdued, grey tiger on Nancy's rod. The decals look great too. I wish the Microwaves didn't cost so much but it is brilliant system. Never, ever, never ever, ever, never leave a rod turning without strapping it down. Nice work on the rods, I'm sure they will be pleased.

Awesome work Bubba! That is my first time seeing a stripper guide like that. Pretty unique concept.

Beautiful craftmanship as always. The combinations of grays, blacks, and red is awsome!!! I have no doubt they will be thrilled.

Awesome work as always Curado! I think I would have went ballistic when I walked back in the room later and seen that the rod fell out of the finisher.

Here is the concept. And before some of you go to bashing, yes, Doug Hannon was supposedly the initial developer of this guide and Castaway is currently producing a rod using the guides. Fuji is currently producing a smaller system of the guide. It does sort of look awkward being a 30mm guide.

Those are nice looking rods!
Mudhole is hosting a class at the end of Aug in Phoenix, I'm thinking about driving over if there I can get in the class. I would love to learn how to do this as a hobby. Definitely more productive than sitting behind a computer all the time! Good work Bubba! |
