Default Fly fishing for bass

Does anybody here fly fish for bass? If so what kind of equipment works the best. I know there is a lot of different line weights and flies you can use.

it's ok. YES, i love to fly for bass. i just use the little popping flies, and a floating line. catch bream and bass and catfish too. sometimes crappie. i get the flies at wally world. if you are bass flying, get the bigger flies.

5/6 wt minimum - I use a 7 wt personally. You can catch bass on trout flies - especially dry flies and streamers, but I still think its easier to use cork poppers. Dry flies require floatant and it gets to be a hassle.

i was kinda waiting on captain mike to answer up first but...

i have caught them on a 6 wt rod but 8 wt would work better..
tippet you can get away with 4-6 feet 10-12 pound tippet will work.. you likely wont need backin but it helps.. remember when you lock it down with an 8 wt fly rod you are only puttin 6 onces of pressure on the hook. which means ya got to play um..
as aposed to 3-5 pounds of pressure average bass tackle puts on the hook.

Alright I got it now.. You need a 7-8 wt floating line and about 3feet of 20lb flouro for a leader. You use huge hair bugs shaped like frogs and huge decievers that look like shad. Fish in the deepest parts of pads and timber. When the blowup occurs wait till you feel the fish before the strip strike. A distance is not important as accuracy......If you set up four paper plates in your back yard and practice putting the Waldorf hair bug on each plate with no false cast then you are ready.

Waldorf hairbugs look like this..

As big as you can find...

Trim guard to be softer..

One more tip: A soft rod is useless..

Google search Walt's Poppers. He hand makes everyone of his poppers from start to finish. It's amazing watching him tie the feathers on these baits. He's been around for a long time and has made baits, not just poppers, for some of the biggest bass fishermen in the country.

Here's a website that sells them http://www.brooksideflies.com/flies_20.php
