Spinnerbait Rod
Is a 7' heavy w/ extra fast tip ideal for spinnerbaits?
Thanks- Julien |

Better for weightless soft plastics, but it'll work. I use an AllStar spinnerbait rod. a 6-6 M with an extra fast tip.

i use a 6-6 mh.i do feel you need a rod with some backbone but i reserve heavy actions for flipping and pitching in heavy weeds.the medium will cast the best but i just think they are to soft.

Ahh. And another question... the rod I'm talkin about is an ideal rod for c-rig? Any soft plastic?

Yep. I wouldn't hesitate throwing a C-rig or any soft plastic on it.

this post made me think of an idea....making a list of rod sizes for different applications and what someone not experienced with rod buying should/could look for when going for application specific rods.

i was just speaking more or less in terms of "this rod length and power to that rod length and power are really good with"
Like a lot of people recommend a 6-6" to 7-0" medium to medium heavy with a medium or light tip for spinnerbaiting. or a 7-0 to even 7-6" MH fast action rod for jigs and worms....things like that. not necessarily a 'get this rod" post but just features and things to look for in a 'little-more-than-general' range. |

Ken, that is a good idea-not getting specific with brands, just the lengths/actions for different baits/applications.

I fish spinnerbaits a lot and I use a few rods. In tight spots I use a 6' med action with a fast tip. It works real nice for tight cover and firing them up under overhang. I can usually get within 1/2" or so of my targets with this rod. My main rod is actually a 6'6" MH fast tip which is an all around rod. It has a ton of backbone to pull them up fast with 15lb mono or 35lb braid on the reel. I use 7ft for fishing deeper structure where long casts and heavier baits are used. They are just a little long for tight cover i think. JMHO.
