Straight Shank Or Ewg
Well guys this year I fished all summer just straight shank worm hooks and my landing ratio went up.....fished the Mustad blue colored ones all summer and landed every one....only exception was a few at KY lake. Now I did notice that my catch rate was down just a little from when I used all red hooks last year....HMMMMMM maybe the whole red hook thing works or I just didn't have as good of a year. I did get some bigger ones this year though.

I use either depending on the type/bulkiness/size of plastics that I'm using. I havent noticed a major difference either way, just make sure you hooks are sharp.

yeah.....the worms can slip down the shank on the straight shanks more......I think if I got some of that fishin glue it would cure that up.

I was talking w/ Gerald Swindle and he advised using straight shank on plastics (with the exception of large baits: brush hogs, creatures, etc...) which he advised using the EWG's. I followed his advice and I noticed a HUGE difference in my hookup %.

I don't use them any more, but way back when I first started bass fishing we used the 1/0 straight hook on 3-4 inch finese worms, and about the only other hook was the truturn aberdeenstyle hook that helped keep the plastic on the hook, with a bend in the wire near the top

JB, I still use Tru-Turns on worms-I can't EVER remember losing a fish when using a Tru-Turn. Wish they made an offset shank or EWG. I use an EWG or offset shank on everything else-soft jerkbaits, stickbaits, creature baits, etc.

Havent had any problems with the tru-turn. I can only remember it being spit once. I use them on everything including creatures.

Try a few weeks with senkos. I have found if you take the lure off(which I seldom do) and rinse them off thayll last a bit longer.

naw rinsing them off takes the temper out of the hook! def. do not do. dip them in hot wax to make them last forever. living close to the coast i have found that 2 be the best thing to do. the bass in my new avatar (just got it loaded finally) was one of the first hawgs i caught with this new technique. got her in late spring ot of fork in 12-14 ft of water on a watermelon sinko rigged texas style..... you cant beat that combo.

Always glad to see a fellow Texan join the forum! Interesting tip-that's one I haven't heard, but it makes perfect sense. Nice hawg!

Generally, I use Gamakatsu EWG 4/0 for LM and 3/0 for SM.

For 2 years we have been using wide gap mustad ultra points for all of our small (< 4") carolina rig stuff and 5 and 6/o wide gap mustad's for all or our huge creature baits and 10" worms. Caught the hawg on my avatar using 6/o wide gap last spring so I won't use anything else now.

Just bought Acadummy out of size 1 tru-turn 50 packs. They were selling them for a dollar in the bargain bin-suckers.
