Alot of us don't use live bait on here. We use spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, and plastic worms. Get a Medium Heavy rod, and 10-15lbs test line. Got some 2/0 offset hooks too.

Welcome to the forum!
As Zooker says, need a tad more info-what kind of rod/reel are you using-spincast, spinning, baitcast, where are you fishing-lakes, ponds, rivers, etc. Meantime here is a great site for someone getting started: http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html
