Check out some of the browning rods for 40-50 bucks and maybe an abu or daiwa reel.

I had a Browning that I was sent and it performed pretty well. For the money I would think it's a reasonable choice.

And don't forget... fair price is relative.

If you have a Gander Mountain store near you, you might want to check out what they have in their name brand rods and reals. I have 3 of their rods and they perform excellent, and come with a life time replacement warrenty if they ever break. Havn't used one of their reels, but have played with a few in the store and my next spinning reel will be one of theirs. Their pricing seems good to me. The rod I just bought is an IM8 blank and payed 59$ for it. But they have several nice IM7 rods for like 39$ I believe.

Yes, they have very good rods, a friend has one, but I would stick witha daiwa, abu, quantum, or pfleuger reel. They make the best spinning reels. Look at a cardinal.
