It all depends on the conditions where you will be fishing. If I had to pick one I'd go with a 3/8 oz. Original in either a black or frog pattern. That said, my favorite is a black Muskie Jitterbug. I reserve that one for night fishing, particularly full moon night fishing. I don't know if they are even making them anymore.
Yep-they do. It is that XL Jitterbug.

i always think bigger is better. i would get the biggest size you can find(but i dont like the jointed, dont trust them. so i dont get jointed) but the biggest original jitterbug you can find in black should get you some hawgs.....especially at night.

5/8 in all Black, not the jointed ones. Any color is really OK, black just seems to perform better for me, so now I throw it more than any other color, so I think it's better LOL. Anyway I have quite a few, and I prefer the 5/8 oz size.
Reb they still make the Muskie Jitterbug, I have bought a couple this year. Waiting to use them though, most bass around here would run from that thing. Lizards

Check my avatar. That doesn't mean I have any expertise, it just means that Jitterbugs are by far my favorite topwater.
I use black only; I'm confident enough that I don't think more colors would get me more fish. I've always used 3/8 oz. and have not been able to see a difference in my catch between the regular and jointed. I've just very recently started to use the 5/8 oz. in some cases. All my 'Bugs have been modified to add split rings and replace the factory hooks.

I've been throwing a black 5/8 jointed version for the past 3 years now with really great success. I was throwing a non jointed version for a while and thought I'd try the jointed just for kicks. Both seem to work very well. It seems like I get more strikes on the jointed version though.

I am almost embarrased to admit it, but I have never tied on a Jitterbug. I have thought about them many times when I see them hangin in the stores, but just never pulled the trigger.
Are they still a lure that deserves some space in the tacklebox or are they just a relic of the past?

Thanks for the info Keith, think I will pick 1 or 2 up and give them a try. Any tips on size or color.

Jitterbugs are still a LOCK at night. I also like them as a foggy pre-dawn search bait. Here's a 1966 vid you might enjoy.

Great pre dawn to first light bait for me. Never had much luck after light except for a few dinks.

I throw a 5/8 in black. Thats all I throw most of the time. There are times though when the softer sound of the 1/4 is what they want, so I use both sizes. And black is the only color I own.
