Default Pound test line helping Buzzbait????

i was watching Hank Parker and he said to use 25lb test line with your buzz baits, he said his buzz bait works alot better with it. have you heard this or have you tried? thanks.
i know not to use no 4lb test with it, i use 15lb would it make that much of a difference?
Thanks

If you can dedicate one rod to buzzbaits/spinnerbaits/toads, I recommend you use 30-50 test braid. Once you learn to NOT react at the sight of the strike, you'll probably have better hooksets...and...the braid will saw through weeds better.

well, the reason for the heavier line is because it floats the bait higher, helping it ride on top so you can retrieve it a bit slower. i sue 15lb mono, and it works fine. but hey, dont fix what aint broke.

I agree 100% with FR. I use 50lb braid for all my topwater...Spook...Buzz...popper....Frogs. Braid floats really well so it helps keep the bait up. Mono has a certain amount of stretch that makes me worried when i throw topwater. IMO/IME braid is the way to go...

I use 17 pound test for most topwaters except for frogs. 15lb should work fine.

skeeter said it. mono floats heavier mono floats better. it keeps the buzzbait up better. it makes more of a difference than you think. i use 50 lb. braid now. but i did use 25lb. mono worked great.

I watched that last night as well. Skeeter hit it right on the head as to Hank's reason for using heavier mono. He also gave another tip that I had never heard before. He said that if you have trouble throwing 25 lb. test to use line wax that fly fisherman use on lighter line and it will help the line float. I prefer mono for topwaters because I get to excited when a fish boils that I'm immediately setting the hook. Any delay I can get is better for me.

a great substitute to the line wax is use plain butter, it works just as well.

Well, if you can afford to lose lots of lures, and don't mind leaving a bulky buzzbait in a bass's mouth, (So who gives a rat's patootie if he starves to death?) enjoy.

Add a little garlic to the line as well, cut the line into 8 inch segments, with some meatballs on the side, pour some nice kee-anti, mmmmmmmm.

On all top water baits I use 8-30 spider wire.

Butter will not last near as long as wax. I have no idea if the scent of it helps of hurts, but it definately will leave a trail of it, especially with warmer water. I use 50lb Powerpro. I've seen the show you're referring to if I'm not mistaken he's fishing a smaller lake

I use the old famouser WD 40 on my braid and for the topwater setup I use the 16/65 Powerpro. A little overkill for bassin but great for horsin in a red.

You nailed it Skeeter heavier line to get the bait to run slower. I use counter rotating blades to get mine to run slower the counter rotation creates resistance which results in more lift which results in a slower running bait I use a half moon blade and a Turbo Rattler which counter rotate. I use 20 lb line on my buzz bait rod so I can horse those big fish out of cover and out of grass the line is out of the water most of the time so a lighter line is not needed to get the strikes.
