Default How to Mount Object to Deck?

I've got a 2009 Tracker TXW 175 and am looking to install a couple things to the deck: namely, some rod holders and maybe a cup holder.

What material is the deck under the carpet? And how does one properly install these items onto the deck?

I'd greatly appreciate any advice.

Predrill slowly as not to wrap carpet around bit.

Never drill deeper than needed. In fact one guy I know wraps masking tape around bit so only a 1/4 inch of the bit shows.

Capt Mike

Use a razor blade & put a small slice in the carpet where you're going to drill

I would pay the extra money for stainless steel screws.

Agree with Mark wholeheartedly. I only use stainless steel fasteners on my boat. They are far more expensive, but you don't have to worry about them rusting. They look nice too.
