The bad news is you bought one of the least manageable fluorocarbons. Trilene 100% has to be one of the stiffest on the market. I've had to use this line in a pinch a couple times and hated every second of it. It seems to be a reliable line, but is just plain stiff. But don't feel bad for giving it a try, it is the most marketed fluoro and it is good to at least try every brand.

The good news is, you can buy Seaguar AbrazX or InvizX. Both are very supple and soft and cast much better than Trilene 100%. I think you'll see a huge difference in handling switching to these lines.

Kevin, I've been using the Trilene 100% flourocarbon and have been wanting to try something else because it is so stiff as you said. It's strong and sensitive, but very stiff. Could you tell me what is the difference between the AbrazX and InvizX? I'd be using it for pitchin soft plastics on my Revo STX around cover.

Keith, the abrasx is more abrasion resistant. I've hears it is a little stiffer than invisx, but not much. Its kind of like sufix elite vs siege.

Hi Keith... AbrazX is more abrasion-resistant than InvizX, as well as stronger all-around.

In terms of softness/limpness, I think AbrazX is actually softer than InvizX. But it's so close that it's tough to tell. Both are great lines.

I've had some defective AbrazX spools (as I mentioned in an earlier thread). But have had no problems with InvizX. The defective spools seem to be only with the 200 yd spools.

Don't forget to try braid as a mainline and a 7 foot fluoro leader. I like 8-10 lb test braid tied with a double-uni knot connection. I really like this setup for long distance casting and sensitivity. Stay away from the wax-coated braids (ie. Power Pro).

Kevin, I'm curious about this, is it knot issues?

Power Pro is the only braid I've used on spinning gear and I wasn't real happy with it. I like PP fine on casting gear though.

My gripe with paraffin-coated braided lines (I'm guessing that is the coating) is two-fold... 1) Softness and 2) Noise.

The sound waxy braid makes going through guides is a personal preference thing. It annoys me.

But wax-coated braid doesn't cast as far... and in cold water temps, gets even stiffer.

If you like the wax coating, that's cool. It's not a big deal as far as being able to catch fish... but personally, I don't like the feel of it and I favor softer braids.

For heavy casting gear, it hardly makes a difference. But for spinning reels, I think a softer braid gives you slightly better casting.

Thanks, my problem was with the way it casted. I might give it a shot with another brand, I really like the sensitivity of braid.

I use braid on all both my spinning setups and love it. I recently switched from 10lb Sufix Performance Braid to 10 and 15lb Spiderwire InvisiBraid (Yes, I know it's not translucent).

The switch from the low test Sufix to the Spiderwire brought with it a very noticable change. The Spiderwire is much smoother and quieter due to the Sufix only having 4 carriers at 10lb test.

I had went with the Invisibraid because of it's white color. I thought it would be easier to line watch than green braid... not really. If there is any glare on the water, it becomes difficult to see. Where it works good is in low-light situations where you wouldn't be able to see green very good. Next time I'd go with Spiderwire Ultracast since it's basically the same line as Invisibraid, just green. However, I do want to try the new Sufix 832 braid. It has 8 carriers throughout all tests.

Kevin,

What brand of braid do you use?

I use both Spiderwire Stealth and Stren Sonic Braid with great success.

While I've tried nearly every fluoro under the sun, I have such good results with these two braids that I haven't branched out much.

But braids are fairly similar to one another, with the exception of softness, coatings and color-retention... and even then there isn't much in difference to impact catching fish.

I wouldn't mind using any braid really, other than stuff like Power Pro because of the heavy coating and stiffness.

It's all strong and pulls like a winch.

I LOVE braid and do use a flouro leader on most occasions. Actually think the stiffer flouro like Triline works fine for a leader. I do keep one spinning reel loaded w/ 10# Yo Zuri flourocarbon as well. Lo vis enough for my uses, more manageble than 100% flouro, so can use a bit heavier line for fishing around cover.
