Default Cool idea to rig a craw.... really good for fishing junk.

So I was fooling around today with different ways to rig a soft plastic craw (similar to a chigger craw, only 5"). The craw I used had 1/5th of the body hollow at the front/head. What I did was take the craw, and a skewer, and poke a hole all the way through, about 1/4" away from the butt. After that I took some olive oil (for a lubricant, you can use what ever, I'm sure an oil based fish attractant would have worked well too) and put it into the hole. Than I took some BB's (3), and stuck them down into the hole... as far as they would go. Than I took some Styrofoam and put it into the hollow part for buoyancy. I tested this in my fish tank and it slides down nice and easy, pretty slow too because of the Styrofoam. Very cool little rig. I can cast it good with my casting tackle, and it has a very finesse fall and action to it!

It's basically the same idea as a tru-tungsten stinger worm. It weights the plastic from the inside. With the internal weights, it will let the bait slid through cover like hydrilla, coon tail, and other gunky plants with out getting the sinker and the hook all cover with it. Since it's buoyant, it will sit onto of the hydrilla rather than punching right through. I can try it this week end.... I'll let you know how it goes.

Just a reminder, BB's rust. So make sure you don't place the bait or the BB's back in your box with your other hooks or the dreaded rust-monster will spread throughout your tackle.

Not to hi-jack your thread but you can get those little packs of silica(I believe its silica) and put in your tackle box to suck the moisture out and help prevent rusting. Your local pharmacist usually has a ton of these they throw away (they come with pills) and will usually give them away if you ask.

It is a good Idea on the craw rig, i'm gonna try that myself.

Great idea!! I heard something along those lines a long time ago when I first started fishing, but didn't pay much attention to it since I didn't have a lot of tackle.

Cool! Lemme know how it works if you fish it before me!

I found out what craw it is. It's a YUM Craw Papi... water melon candy I believe.

I also rigged it one a VMC Snake hook.

I've never used them ones before, but they got cool action!

Feel free to make a thread about it though!

I also like this idea. But on the bb's... get copper ones. They won't rust. Just turn green after a while. They will however leave a residue on the bait. Hmmmm, now that I think about it. Copper ain't too good after all.

What if you dunk em in fingernail polish?..That should protect them right?

Dunk em in fingernail polish and they won't have any metal on metal click. I'd try glass beads.

Keep in mind with the fingernail polish that stomach acids break it down and it is highly poisonous.
