Learned something new yesterday
Flyrod and I spent the day on the water, and late yesterday I happened to glance down in the cockpit and saw something that looked a little too real laying in the bottom. Turned out to be a bluegill about 1 1/2" long one of the fish we caught yacked up. Not only that, it was still alive! Picked it up and put it back in the water, but I don't think it survived. Anyway, that was the first time I had seen bluegill as forage in this lake, so next time I'll try bluegill colors as well as shad. My point? Be observant out on the water-you can learn a lot watching what is going on around you.

Bluegill are so fragile if you look at them sideways they go belly up!

Dunno 'bout that Bo. Mine I have hooked pretty deep in the throat on a fly, yanked it out with blood all over it and he swam off like a champ.

I remeber during the summer I caught a nice pickeral with a huge pumpkinseed right in its gut. You could see the outlines of the sunfish and when you looked down the pickerals mouth you could see the sunfish

Dodge, I've known for years bluegill patterns work, but for some reason it never clicked until I saw that little 'gill in the bottom of the boat. You can bet I'll use that knowledge in the future.

Have to disagree there. As far as freshwater baitfish go, bream are tough to kill. They'll sit in a five gallon bucket in july looooooooong after all your shiner that took all morning to catch have given up. Unfortunately, they're not as bass friendly
