Remember this ! The fish was foul hooked. That will come back to haunt him. The million dollar fish may not pay out like it should. Incredible fish!

They should let him have the record even if he did foul hook it, most tournaments will allow you to count a foul hooked fish as long as the angler was fishing for the fish in the proper manner.

Yes it's a huge bass, but he didn't take measurements? And he released it before officials could verify it? Got me wondering what's up with that? He obviously knows what the world record is, because his buddy caught one 20+ lbs a few years ago. I don't think it will be official from reading that article, and I personally don't think it should be. Not because of the foul hooking, but because of all the other question marks. Sounds pretty fishy to me.

Now that you put that way, I agree since it wasn't measured.

What do they mean when they say foul hooked?

I think it's pretty cool that the guy didn't want to the fish to die and decided to release him rather than keep him and mount him. I have tons of respect for that guy to pass up on the money he could have got and let the fish live another day and give someone else a chance to catch it.

Am I reading this right, they are saying he was caught back in 2003 at 21-22 lbs?

There's no way that if I would have been lucky enough to catch a bass of that size and not had SEVERAL SEVERAL ways of measuring that fish and as many people witnessing it as I could find. Thats a HUGE BASS and even if it didnt shatter the standing world record or have the chance to I would still want as many witnessess as I could find.

Gotta say I told you so. Brought this up a long time ago on here. The Cali fish and game stock these lakes with trout. Trout have lots of protein, they get some big fish out there. Just read a Cali based lake report, will add site later when I find it. Most of the bass in Cali are Fl strain bass imported over there and released.

I just have to wonder if the bass hit the lure and had one hook in the lip, then after shaking it loose the lure caught on the outside of the mouth
i.e. "foul hooked"....I've seen it happen many times over my fishing times on the water
