Default Spinnerbaits

What color and size of spinnerbaits do you have luck with in the spring? What blade combinations work well? Also, do you fish them deeper or in shallow water? Favorite Brands? Thanks

Ryan

Well first of all I use www.secretweaponlures.com spinnerbaits and furryfishbaits.com.

I bought the secreat weapon lures pro package which gives you spinnerbaits. SWL spinnerbaits can be changed extremely easily and you can make your favorite colored baits or favorite blade combinations.
Colors I like are whites, perch and bass colors

I use spinnerbaits year round. As far as color and blades-depends on the cloud cover and water color.

Clear water-shad colors-white, glimmer, maybe a touch of red.
Stained water-add some chartreuse
Muddy water-bright colors if sunny, dark colors if cloudy

Blades:
Clear water-double willow or willow/Colorado combo
Stained water-willow/Colorado combo
Muddy water-a big, single Colorado blade
Also:
Sunny-silver
Partly cloudy-silver/gold combo-if more cloudy than sunny a gold willow blade with a silver Colorado, reverse if more sun than clouds
Cloudy-copper blades

Favorite brand? The ones I make

I like the 3/8 chartruse and white, but have many dif type blade combos, tortuise shell with colorado, or twin willows, or single colorado or indiana, depends on speed and conditions.

My go to spinnerbait is a custom 1/2oz, tandem Accent willow leaf blades, with a white head and chartreuse/white skirt, with a thin wire. But if you want something that will produce under any light condition or water color, I've found that the Terminator 3/8oz, tandem spinner bait with their gold willow-like big blade and smaller chrome colorado blade above that, and the chartreuse/white skirt works quite exceptionally. You can fish it at any depth and any type retrieve you want. Just experiment with it and see what the fish want since in the Springtime fish can be quite picky about how they want their "food" presented. Hope this helps.

The only problem that I've personally had with the shaft that is flexible. Is that they seem to get hung up when you bump into a log or tree branch. I use the stainless wire. They don't "roll over" when you hit something.

I to use the Secret Weapon Spinner baits.

The posts above mention other wires flex to easy more roll over. SWL's use a heavy wire, not much flex not near the roll over, and short arm for better hook ups. The 5 blade bait shown also, this can be done also, no problems with the action or hook ups.

The ease with which you can change Blade size/style makes it such a versitle bait. I can easly determine what the bass want without having to tie on a different bait when I want a Indiana blade rather than a colorado blade. Also can change color combinations quickly and easily.

As a new field staffer for Secret Weapons I'm learning that I wished Id had them in my tackle bag back when I was very serious about tournament fishing. Now that I'm at a point where I can have the time to fish again looking forward to doing more tournaments.

BARRY, I haven't used the spinnerbaits yet, but I received a few SWL buzzbaits at the 2005 ABA Nationals and used them later at Kentucky Lake with good results. If the spinners are as good as the buzzbaits then the bass better watch out!

The spinnerbaits are the same great quality as the buzzbaits. I plan on using my SWL spinnerbaits when the bass start schooling on my cousins lake. The bass always school up after the shinners.
