Default Modifications on Cranks

I've read in a few places one way to make your crank baits run deeper is to angle the lip 30 degrees on the very tip with a file. The problem is I can't remember if you angle it down or up. Does any one know???
Thanks

I think it is the bottom side of the lip-have to check and see if I can find out for sure. Good question!
