Default Rapala Lures

What lure from Rapala do you think works best in small lakes and ponds?? Just looking for everybody's own personal opinion. Mine is a Rapala DT-4 or Rapala DT-6 in a bluegill or firetiger pattern! What's yours?

I find that the same lures work equally well in smaller waters as large. If, say, you're cranking over weed tops that are four feet down, it doesn't matter to me what the size of the pond/lake is. My favorite Rapala is by far the original Shad Rap. I also use the Rattling Rapalas a lot. One lure that I believe to be very underrated is the Countdown. I hardly ever read anything about it, but it can be deadly and will catch anything that swims, including largemouth and smallmouth.

I have always prefered either the shad (blue back) shadrap #5 or 7 , or the chartruse and white in the #5 size..also the perch in the #7 is a great crankbait

DTs I like for lakes. I use 4-8 foot ones for a lake I fish. I use crawfish, baby bass, bluegill and perch with great success.

well for small ponds, i dont use DT because my pond isnt deep enough. i love the x-rap though, its got a great cast, and the action is also very good. not too hard to work either, there are 2 different ways you can work it that both work well.

I found out traveling all over bass fishing, that most Walmarts have thier own local salesperson decide on what kind of stock to sell, depending on the region... for example a wallmart on the coast of fla. will have bass and ocean tackle, where as up here in ohio you see bass tackle for lakes, perhaps up in cleveland you would see more walleye tackle, and so forth...

right on cranky, when i was starting out bass fishing i asked the person working there what would be a good bait, and he gave me a saltwater crab that really did not work for me at all. i guess in some walmarts the guys know what they are talkin about but others they dont.

yep. i actually think the shoppers in the section are smarter than the clerks. i usually find the oldest, wisest looking guy and casually try to ask what would be nice. thats how i got my first spinning combo.

It's funny, here in Pitts. the wall mart where i live has gulp salt water lures. Although I might try the shrimp gulp for bass. The Wall mart has Curado's marked down to $99.00. I might get one or two if they go down to $25.00 like last year. But I had to cover almost every wall mart here in western Pa. to find them that cheap. Almost all the wall marts around here could pass for one another. Blindfold me and put me in anyone and I could pick out a DT in the color you want. lol. The buyer here needs a good dose of learning about bass fishing. I like the X-rap.

When the topwater bite is on, I like the Skitterpop and Skitterwalk. I have to agree with others about the X-Rap. It has caught quite a few fish for me when nothing else would.

Check out the DT7 if your water is deep enough.

Shallow Shad Rap #7 in Shad color. I tie directly to the eye and twitch it back fast from the bank year round to make the bugles bite.
