Spinnerbaiting
I'm fairly new to using spinnerbaits, but they are one of favorite lures. I will start fishing tournaments soon, so I am looking for a spinnerbaiting combo.
I am guessing baitcasting would be the way to go, as you can place your bait where you want it easier, and you have a better entry. It seems like a 6'6"-7' m or mh rod would be the way to go. Should the rod have a stiff, or soft tip? What is a good rod for this, I was looking at this one. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse I am also thinking about a shimano light and tough rod. If you have any suggestions on roids, please let me know. Reels, with a 26-28in./handleturn seem to fit the bill, and i was thinking either a Pfleuger or a Quantum, or a Daiwa would work. What # test line should I use, I was thinking either 14 or 17 lb flouro. Thanks alot. |

I paid a Hundred bucks for mine some years back. Yes! Not trying to promote for him, but I do believe it is a great deal. It's not an after market rod, it's made in the USA. Carpy

i think that the mh power is a must, because most of the time, you're fishing near cover,so you need to horse the fish out. i reccomend using 20lb clear trilene big game, because it has good abrasion resistence. check out this thread on line

i aint selling a trion... there mine you can't have them lol...ya want a soft tip rod with a pile of back bone. face it the whole idea is to put a blade in the jungle. the soft tip lets you do some finsse presentation style entry. the back bone to haul them out of heavy cover ..
i use 7 foot heavy hmx fenwick rods... zooker

I love my Pfleuger reels, I see why you want to keep yours!
Although my dads crapped out on him in the rain yesterday. For now, I am throwing them on my plastics setup, which is to slow, and has braid one it, so whenever I get enough money, I'll look into a fenwick, or a falcon, or a st croix but probably an all star. Thinking about arkiesbass's. |

I would agree that a medium heavy rod with a fast tip is ideal, however I prefer to fish spinnerbaits on a shorter rod than a lot of people. I fish mine on a 6'3" rod, and I wouldn't suggest getting anything over a 6'6". The reason being that with spinners I am willing to sacrifice casting distance for accuracy, and I think you are more accurate with a shorter rod. Also, I usually fish my spinners with my rod tip pointed down towards the water to keep them running a little deeper, and this is easier to achieve with a shorter rod. Then again I'm only about 5'8" so that may be why I use a shorter rod.

I use an AllStar SPBT (spinnerbait) rod. 6-6 M designed for spinnerbaits. You don't need sensitivity for a spinnerbait rod like you do for a worm or jig.

You do not need a sensitive rod when you use Reb's spinnerbaits because when the fish hit em' you know it!!

zooker said it best. the most important thing in fishing especially spinnerbaiting and i really stress this is accurate casts. so you need a soft tip. but you also need a med. heavy. as far as a reel whatever floats your boat. accurate casts are so important so dont skimp on the rod.

Va,
You shouldn't be doing 'roids, they are bad for you. Just work out extra hard and you will get ripped. J/K

Looks like I'll be using my old one this weekend, its a shakespeare agiliity (6.3:1), on an ugly stik lite(6'6" mh). Its a good combo, but not high quality.
