I think a lot of guys, including me, do their own maintenance.
I'm sure there's some guys that send them out, and they should be able to help you. Another idea would be to ask if they have any recommended repair/service shops at your local mom and pop tackle store. BB

I have used nutters rod and reel for years. First met them at the Nashville fishing expo 20 years ago.

Yea alot of people do there own maintenance but sometimes it requires sending your reel off to repair especially if you need new parts for it. I use mostly shimano reels and I have only ever had to send of my spinning reel to them and that was after I tried to fix it myself. My suggestion is if you can do it yourself dont send it in.You wont see your reel back for a month or two unless its local.Like servicing your reel you should be able to do easily yourself at home with the right supplies(reel oil, reel grease) Last edited by thekevster; 10-08-10 at 10:02 PM. |

Here's another one for you guys. He does standard cleaning as well as custom tuning if you're interested. He's highly recommended on Tackle Tour.

You should check these guys out.
ReelEx Express Reel Service www.reel-ex.com I sent in 11 trashed reels and they had them back in the mail to me in less than 72 hrs. He guaranteed 96 hr turnaround and beat that, and when I got them back I swore they weren't mine! I can't say enough about the workmanship, price, and communication. Plus, these things have never worked this well, and have lasted all season long without a problem. Heck, they even paid the return shipping! Mossy |

I know I'm new to this site and most of you don't know me. I'm Kevin Rush aka pro reel on several sites. My business is professional reel service.
www.proreelservice.com Unlike several shops out there, I work on every known brand of reel there is. I have some of the best prices on reel service and the quality of workmanship is top line. I will do whatever it takes to make every customer happy. |

I don't stock very many parts. I do have an online store with the website where I sell bearings, oil, grease and tools. If you need help finding a part, I will try to locate it for you. If you need some expensive parts from Abu, Quantum or Shimano, I may be able to get them for you at a discount. I just located the parts for tavery5 to replace his Revo STX spool and convert the reel to dual brakes. The price will be less than he was quoted for a pre 2010 spool.

Just because there aren't enough choices in this thread , I've bought parts before from http://biggreenfish.com but never sent in any reels. He was a pleasure to work with and was good to talk to as well as just selling drag grease/bearings/lube. He also sells a service kit which would be a good idea if you don't already have tools and plan on doing your own.
I did my own in the long Adirondack winter last year. I have sent reels to a guy in northern Indiana before and he did a really good job. He used to be an engineer for Zebco/Quantum and does reels on the side now. If you are interested in him let me know and I'll dig up his info. He did a very good job on mine a few years ago. |

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I promised a report. DVT Mike got my old Shimano reel back to me as promised and it works as well or better than it did when it was brand new. He did a great job on it.
