Default CT River Bass fishing

I need some advise for fishing on the banks of the CT River. I'm using a TX weedless rig and sometimes a whacky rig. I usually go out in my Kayak in the early evening and drift down river. Is this not a good time to fish for bass or is there a better bait to use?

If you fill out your profile, your likely to get more responses. Plus at least some better guesses, since I've never heard of the CT, and have no idea of where you are located, it's kinda tough, but lot's of stuff can and will work.

Default Thanks guys for the responses

Yeah, I live on the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts. I've been kayaking into about 3-4 ft of water with alot weeds and fishing for the bass there for the abundance of cover for the fish. Am I on the right track here? Does water temp matter?

If I remember correctly, shallow slow moving water with laydowns and dingy water (or at least last time I was there in the summer of '91). Should be plenty of smallmouth and largemouth in there. I'd throw some topwater and see how aggressive they are. Then go to a small shallow crankbait like a Bandit 100 or RC 1.5. If nothing then bounce a grub or craw imitation on the bottom.
