Default early present!!!

Got to love my wife...She is not big into fishing, but she went out yesterday and bought me a new Abu Garcia Baitcaster Reel and Abu Garcia Rod.

I would of liked to have the more expensive one, who wouldn't, but this setup is great for what i am going to use it for....So she impressed me or she just got lucky, either way it works for me!!!

probably so, I just went out and tested it on my lunch break;

The Cons:

Its a little noisy, but it could be because its new or the cheap braid i put on it for right now.

Its only a 5.3:1 gear ratio.

The Pros:

It casts great. I had a frog on there because thats one of the baits i will be using on it in the spring and with barely throwing it into the wind, it went about 20 yards...the farthest of any of my rods.

Also, it is nearly impossible to backlash...I thew it into the wind hard a few times and did not really apply that much pressure and i would purposely take my thumb of too early...I was trying to make it backlash, but it wouldn't.

Overall, I like the reel alot, but i will have to down play a little when i tell my wife...

Also, would the noisiness when you cast be because it is new or the line is cheap or new?

I can leave with it, but i am just wondering?

The braid might make some noise if it's new. Once it gets a little wear on it, it'll quieten down. You'll still hear it going throught the guides, though.
A 5.3:1 gearing would be great for deep crankbaits, like DD22's. Generally, you would want a higher gear for frogs, since you want to get the fish out of the slop and ski him to the boat ASAP. But heck, if it's what you have, it'll work.
If you feel comfortable doing it, take it apart and clean the gears and everything, then oil/grease it lightly. That might help with the noise some.
What weight/length is the rod, just out of curiosity?
