Bass Checklist
(Oh, by the way...I have not read Bassmaster. Is that a website or magazine? I have neither read nor seen them before. This is just a happy little coincidence I guess!)
Which bass species have you caught? For simplicity, I have excluded non-Micropterus species like Striped bass, Rock Bass, etc. The scientific names are links to information on the bass species. You should copy the following checklist part of this post into your own post and come back and EDIT your original post (insert an "X") to reflect any change in your status. I have gone ahead and checked my two species. [ ] Micropterus cataractae (Shoal bass) [ ] Micropterus coosae (Redeye bass) [X] Micropterus dolomieu (Smallmouth bass) [ ] Micropterus notius (Suwannee bass) [ ] Micropterus punctulatus (Spotted bass) [X] Micropterus salmoides (Largemouth bass) [ ] Micropterus treculii (Guadaloupe bass) This isn't really a bragging board thing, or I would have put it there. The prupose is not for helping you achieve public glory. What it will help with is if you want to catch a particular species, you will be able to find out who has actually caught one, and ask them where they caught it (if they'll tell you ), what kind of lure, what conditions, etc. You should keep any extra information to a minimum so as to not clog up the thread with off-topic stuff (like we usually do, myself included ). If this thread is successful and/or helpful, or just plain fun, maybe a forum admin might eventually sticky it? ) Personally, I plan on catching every species of bass and trout(another forum perhaps!) in North America before I grow too old to hold a rod and reel.

Guys...you can cut and paste the checklist into your own post. Hopefully, everybody will have only one post, that they come and update once in a while. (I hope a moderator will delete this post so I can meet those criteria. )

[x] Micropterus cataractae (Shoal bass) [x] Micropterus coosae (Redeye bass) (I've caught much better specimens, but this is my only picture) [X] Micropterus dolomieu (Smallmouth bass) [x] Micropterus notius (Suwannee bass) http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...95001_6096.jpg [x] Micropterus punctulatus (Spotted bass) [X] Micropterus salmoides (Largemouth bass) [ ] Micropterus treculii (Guadaloupe bass) Someone has been reading bassmaster. I have all but the Guad, and will go after it withing the next 2 years if I have a say.

Bassmaster magazine just had an article on it, there having a competition to see how many people can catch all the species all over 14" or 12", I cant remember which one, in one year. As for me...

Nofear, its just a coincidence but bassmaster magazine, the magazine put out by B.A.S.S., had an article on the bass slam.
http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/b...=b_bm_mag_slam They list 8 species because they differentiate between northern strain lmb and florida strain lmb, but that is really choppy waters. Actually, many of the species hybridize and make ID tough. I have caught redeyes that have mixed with spots, that is very common, and the guads very existence as a pure species is threatened by smallmouth hybridization.

[X] Micropterus dolomieu (Smallmouth bass)
[X] Micropterus salmoides (Largemouth bass) Unfortunately, in WA State, of the bass species listed above, it is only possible to catch the two listed above. I guess that means I need to do some travelling to get the others.
