I have had issues with it on cheaper rods, but not on any of my decent rigs.

no way does braid do any damage to your eyelets unless they're metal. Any ceramic eyelet won't be damaged.

The only rods I ever see metal guides on are Ultra lites and bargin bin cheap-Os. As long as you have ceramic guides, you're fine.

For more information you can check out the Power Pro site.

i had a cheap shakespear rod that the guide on the end started to notch up when i first started using braid but i had someone tell me that 60lb braid was too big for the small rod to handle. if you have good eyes it should not cut into them but if its cheap watch out.

The larger the braid diameter, the less likely it can cut into even metal or cheap plastic guides.

This is a problem in older or lower end rods. The main problem is with ceramic guides. A lot of higher end rods, and even some cheaper rods now have titanium, alconite, hardloy, etc. guides. These are all fine to use with braid. A lot of rods now days have Fuji concept Alconite guide. These are ok to use with braid.

I've heard that before too, but I just looked over all my braided rods and everything looks fine.

I saw a pic on another site that showed recoil guides that were evidently chewed up by braided line. Let me see if I can find the picture . . .

Photobucket opened up just fine, but I couldn't find the pictures you were referring to.

What were those recoil guides made from ?

Those are recoil guides. I think they look ugly enough that I won't buy a rod with them (this is a personal opinion).

To the subject; If your rod has fuji guides that are aluminum oxide, hardloy, alconite, or SiC, you will not have to worry about braid ever ruining your guides. You might ruin your guides through clumsiness sooner than braid ever will. I'm with Joel.

an easy way to check your guides is to run a Q-tip around your eyelet, if any cotton peels off in the guide then it has a knick in it.

Exactly.

Here is a quote from the Power Pro site: "Older, first-generation superlines were made of abrasive aramids that could cut rod guides and take a toll on equipment. PowerPro solves these problems through super slick, non-abrasive Spectra Fiber composition and unique EBT processing...."

YEP your right about that. The old stuff is what you want to avoid. I jumped on the band wagon along while back with braid. I went back to mono over that issue. I toasted allot of rods over it. I just have'nt made the change since the line quality has changed. I proably won't go back. Unless mono is no longer made.
