Default Colors for deep cranks

What colors do you suggest for deep cranking in stained water? If you can break it down to spring, summer and fall. Also will they work for clearer water (not crystal but maybe 10 feet or so).

Sexy shad, if good! Also any blue gill lookin' ones have been good to me! In the spring I've also had good luck with craw colors.

I prefer wood over plastic and no rattles, The only Cranks with rattles I throw are the DT 14 and DT 16 Rapalas. I use mostly craw fish patterend ones, a few gills no matter what the season. I like to boucne them off of rocks and timber, shallow or deep. The main thing I pay attention to is the profile of the bait and the wobble, tight or wide, which seems to make a difference on some days

It really depends on your body of water, colors that rock on one lake may not be so hot on another. In stained water I really like shad colors, crawdad colors (the more stained the water the more Orange I want in the bait), Citurs Shad, and Firetiger. Not saying that Firetiger won't work as the water clears but to me it's more of a stained to muddy water color. However your shad colors will usually get better as the water clears and crawdad colors will work well too (but in clear water I want less orange and more Browns and Greens).

Depending on water clarity and time of the year. I like sexy shad, blue gill, and colors with chartruse.

I am also a big believer in craw colors. The other colors or combo of any of these that have worked well are blue, green, and purple. These three colors are the last three colors in the visible light spectrum to dissipate in water so they are the most visible. I don't want to hijack the thread but I guess then it opens the debate to the vision capabilities and methods of the bass.

For some reason I almost allways use shad patterns when crankbait fishing. I just bought some of the new Little John DDs in Cellmate, Nasty Shad, and Chartruse/ Blueback. Can't wait to try them out.

Cellmate and Nasty Shad are very good colors for Little Johns, I also like to take a neon green Sharpie and put a line down the sides of the Spooky Shad too.

My Nasty Shad Little John from Tacklewarehouse has been on back order since late December. Greentop was sold out of them last time I was there, and my cousin hasn't been able to get them in at his store. They are apparently the hottest crankbait on the market now.

I have had great success with a "Splat Black" Norman DD-22. I do not know what it is about this color...but it catches everything in Patoka Lake, where I fish. Even the White Bass love it. I think it might resemble a "white crappie meets gizzard shad" to the bass.

Crawfish, shad, chartreuse black/blue back. Stick with those and you will be able to cover just about every situation. I have every color of the rainbow when it comes to cranks, but those 4 colors are about all I throw.
