Need help with oil Change.
I recently bought my first boat. I wanted to go ahead and change the gear oil in the lower unit. This seems like a very simple task. The only question i have is does anyone know what type and weight to use. I have a 1989 Johnson 25hp Electric Start. Any recomendations would be appreciated i do not have the origanal manual so i dont want to just use anything and screw it up.

Make it easy on yoursellf and while there purchasing the gear case lube, purchase a pump and buy your lube in the quart bottles rather than the tubes. You fill the gear case from the bottom hole (drain hole) until it comes out the top hole. The pump has a fitting that virtually eliminates the leaking you cannot avoid trying to fill the gear case with the tubes. $10 for the pump makes it easy witn no mess.

make sure you fill from bottom like bassboggie said do it the other way and you will have trouble pumping it in and when you remove hose you will be wearing it. i did it that way the first time i tried to do it trust me it don't taste that good and is hell getting off glasses
