New guy here saying hello and have a question

Hello all Mike from KY here, I am 28 and have been fishing the better part of my life here on Lake Cumberland.

I have always used a spinning reel but last year i purchased a couple of BPS Extreme bait casters and I have gotten fairly decent with them with the exception of being able to cast light lures. I always use a bullet weight with worms but would like to be able to cast with weightless Super flukes which have some weight to them bu there selves. The problem is I see people all the time able to cast super flukes with sinkers no problem but I cannot even though I am in the backyard almost daily practicing. Any tips or do you guys think that casting weightless super flukes is better left to a spinner?




Rod and reel setup , BPS Extreme, Quantum medium 6'0 tournament series rod, 12 lb Suffix Mono, I have 4 brakes engaged and 2 disengaged.

Try disengaging two more Brakes and practice that. I have no problem throwing superflukes with my Baitcaster.

I can easily throw flukes weightless with a baitcaster. My current setup is the smallest BPS extreme model with a light action 7 ft long graphite castaway rod. The rod is very important here. There is a difference between casting and throwing lures, and depending on how the rod loads up when you do cast casting flukes can be easy or impossible on baitcasting gear. You really need that rod to load up so that most of the forward movement of the lure is imparted by the rod springing back. 6 ft rods can cast flukes fine, but they need to be light or medium light at least. I think everything else with your setup sounds fine. Droping the line to 8 pound test might help a little, but its not gonna be your problem.

I prefer fishing flukes on baitcasters - there is only one thing that spinning rods can do RE flukes that is superior - skip under docks and brush - but even thatcanbe done with a baitcaster, just not as well.
